SKETCHBOOK ideas and assignments

Each sketch is worth 4 points if the following requirements are met
  • Must be in notebook/sketchbook
  • Must fill entire page
  • Must fulfill the assignment given
Late work loses 1 point
Extra page of observational or assignment based work = BONUS +1pt.

Sketchwork is assigned based on the unit of study. We create and revise thumbnails, take notes, and reflect or add personal ideas as instructed in class or anytime. Bonus work is always encouraged and can be of the student/artist's choice as long as it fills the page and relates in some way to our unit (or past units) of study.

Simply use a pen, sharpie, marker, and/or colored pencil (nothing that erases) to fill in areas of a page
  • Freely divide the page into shapes
  • Use a variety of thick and thin lines
  • Fill in shapes with repeated free-flowing patterns
  • Continually divide, pattern, line, and texture spaces
  • Don't forget shading
Look for design elements in your amazing, freestyle creations

With every unit project expect:
4 Thumbnail Sketches (small quick sketch designs for larger work)
For Example: Unit 1 - Oil Pastel design that shows what is important to you
Notice how one page can be divided into 4 parts - each will share the same requirements, but will be 4 variations on the theme
--Think of it as a flow of ideas or Brainstorm Designs all 4 would include the same parts
  • Include name (as a design part-maybe graffiti style)
  • Include 4+ objects that are important to you
  • Arrange together with a single focus/emphasis and a unified composition
