FOCUSED DRAWINGS

1. SHAPE:- 4 or more abstract shapes/symbols
to capture your theme (silhouettes)

2. PATTERN:- draw four horizontal patterns with
line and shape, include a favorite
shape (from #1) in overall pattern

3. CONTRAST: - choose your favorite pattern
from above. Using Black, White, and
one color (or bl/wh only), add contrast
in at least four ways

4. REFLECT:- How do the shapes, patterns,
and contrast choices you made
influence the visual message to the
viewer?

1. COIL TECHNIQUE
  • coil built from pinch pot base
  • coils fully blended inside and out
  • coils used to widen and narrow form


2. FORM/SYMMETRY
  • Form symmetric from any side and looking down from top
  • form of a bowl that narrows at mouth and widens at belly


3. SLIP DECORATION/PATTERN
  • pattern repeats around pot
  • pattern contains abstract "tribal" symbols/significance - as defined by the members choice and tribal banner from class
  • pattern contains lines, shapes, contrast


4. CRAFTSMANSHIP
  • pot is even in thickness and smooth without cracks, bumps, or sharp edges at mouth


5. CULTURAL (local tribe) SIGNIFICANCE
  • artist thoughtfully crafted a vessel relating to the ancient Pueblo style of pottery, but clearly showing personal design choices to fit chosen "tribal" theme
